The design and proposal engineer translates the customer requirements into the design of a vessel.
In the role as design and proposal engineer, you develop ship designs, draft specifications, and work closely with various different departments. Based on your experience, you will be challenged within this role to developed new vessels, guide colleagues, or calculate costs and determine delivery timelines.

The responsibilities of the design and proposal engineer,
- Designing vessel designs based on specific client requirements;
- Offering technical support to the sales team during the contract phase, such as presenting proposals or sharing engineering calculations;
- Refining standard designs to reduce costs and improve quality, reliability, and vessel functionality;
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure strong project outcomes;
- Monitoring progress throughout the pre-sales stage;
- Coordinating with internal stakeholders to align project goals;
- Driving product development and enhancement efforts through market analysis and concept development;
- Developing project schedules, estimating additional work and potential cost reductions, and compiling client-specific data such as deviation lists;
- Producing ship designs, technical specifications, cost estimates, and construction plans for sales opportunities.
The design and proposal engineer brings,
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering;
- Work experience in ship design;
- A customer-orientation mindset, flexibility and the ability to work on various projects at the same time;
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, and the ability to express yourself well in a business conversation;
- The willingness to travel to clients all over the world;
- The eligibility to work in the Netherlands;
