As a Project Leader Mechanical Engineering, you will manage technically complex yacht projects and safeguard the quality of engine rooms, technical systems, and onboard piping systems.
What will you do as a Project Leader Mechanical Engineering?
In this role, you will lead mechanical engineering projects for exclusive superyachts. Together with your team, you will be responsible for the complete technical development of the engine room, including propulsion installations, steam systems, and associated piping. You will also contribute to the technical hotel systems required for the luxury accommodation onboard.
Your responsibilities
- Leading mechanical engineering projects within luxury yacht building;
- Coordinating the engineering of engine rooms and technical systems;
- Supervising the design of propulsion installations and steam systems;
- Coordinating piping systems and technical hotel systems;
- Managing, supporting, and coaching the project team;
- Safeguarding the technical quality of designs and production drawings;
- Ensuring that Production and Purchasing receive the required information on time;
- Coordinating technical approvals with the relevant authorities;
- Liaising with suppliers regarding specifications, materials, and systems;
- Monitoring project schedules, progress, and budgets;
- Identifying and resolving technical and organizational challenges;
- Coordinating with other engineering disciplines and departments;
- Overseeing the project from engineering through to handover to the crew.
Working within luxury yacht building
You will join the Mechanical Engineering department of a leading Dutch superyacht builder. This department is responsible for the complete technical design of each yacht and works closely with Shipbuilding Engineering and Interior Engineering.
The yachts are constructed at the shipyard in Oss. As the production facilities are located directly next to the engineering department, you can see how your team’s designs are transformed into complete technical installations.
Every yacht is unique and requires specialist, custom-made solutions. You will work within a close-knit team of driven technical professionals. Communication is direct, the atmosphere is open and informal, and cooperation between engineering, purchasing, and production is close.

You are an experienced Project Leader with a strong mechanical engineering background. You combine technical expertise with project-management skills and know how to bring structure to complex projects.
As our next Project Leader Mechanical Engineering, you maintain an overview even when schedules change or technical challenges arise. You communicate effectively, coach your team, and are confident in making decisions.
Requirements
- You have completed a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable technical field;
- You have at least three years of relevant professional experience;
- You have experience leading mechanical engineering projects;
- You possess knowledge and skills in project management;
- You have experience with project planning, progress monitoring, and control;
- You have broad knowledge of mechanical engineering systems;
- You can structure and coordinate complex technical projects;
- You possess strong analytical and organizational skills;
- You have coaching and leadership qualities;
- You possess strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- You can work independently and take responsibility;
- You remain calm under pressure and maintain an overview;
- Experience within yacht building or shipbuilding is an advantage;
- You have a good command of written and spoken English;
- You are available for 32 to 40 hours per week;
- You are eligible to work in the Netherlands.
